“The Story of the Lighthouse Keepers: Canada’s 150th Anniversary” by Hayley Moore

In 1827, a small group of people set out from Boston to build a lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan. The project was difficult and dangerous, but it would lead to one of Canada’s most iconic stories.

For more than 150 years, the keepers at Canada’s famous lighthouse have braved storms, battled wind and waves, and even lived in pitch darkness. They’ve inspired generations with their courage and commitment to duty.

After being forced out of Victoria in 1846, the BC colony of Vancouver decided to make their stand in the Fraser Valley. The Battle of Vancouver was a bloody and decisive confrontation that would shape the future of British Columbia.

2. “The Red One” by Anna Porter

In 1918, Winnipeg’s mayor John Norquay led a citizens’ revolt against Canadian troops stationed in Europe during World War I. Called the Red One, this rebellion marked a pivotal moment in Canadian history and helped spur the country into independence.

The Canadians Who Broke the Japanese Code” by Gordon Thomas
During World War II, Canada played an important role in decoding Japanese military communications. This crucial intelligence allowed Allied forces to defeat Japan and bring peace to the world.

In 1870, Manitoba attempted to secede from Canada, sparking a bloody civil war that lasted for almost two years. The uprising was ultimately unsuccessful but it marked a turning point in Canadian history – paving the way for Confederation two decades later.
